School of Ethnology and Sociology, founded in 2007, is located at the south campus of Inner Mongolia University. The school is composed of Department of Ethnology, Department of Sociology, Department of Social Work and the Ethnic Museum. Department of Ethnology offers Doctorate Program and Master Degree Program (Level 1) and Department of Sociology offers Master Degree Program(Level 2). From 2009 to 2012, the school enrolled minorities for Master of Public Administration (MPA). In 2015, the school began to enroll candidates for Master of Social Work (MSW). Currently, there are 35 faculty members, including 31 professional technical personnel, among whom there are 4 professors, 11 associate professors, 16 lecturers and 5 administrative personnel and teaching assistants. There are 25 teachers with doctorate degree accounting for 81% of the total and 20 teachers having the experience of studying abroad and overseas exchanges. Now, there are 448 undergraduates and 52 postgraduate students.
The research institutions include Training and Research Center for Social Workers of Inner Mongolia and Research Center for Community Theory Construction of Hohhot. The scientific and teaching laboratories includes Laboratory of Visual Anthropology, Laboratory of Social Work, and Laboratory Ethnic Psychology Research, and there are several teaching and practice centers. The school has a Brand Major of Ethnology at the regional level, an Excellent Course of Ecological Anthropology, and two university-level Excellent Teaching Teams. The school also has co-operations at home and abroad with the University of Cambridge, National Museum of Ethnology (Japan), National University of Mongolia, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Remin University of China, Xiamen University, Lanzhou University and Minzu University of China.
